Dr Robert Stewart – Cooke’s Lieutenant

Dr Stewart of 1st Broughshane Presbyterian Church was actively involved with the Rev Dr Henry Cooke in the confrontations over Arianism within the Synod of Ulster and was the protagonist in the famous debate in 1827 with the parish priest of Ballymena over papal supremacy which lasted for 3 days that made him a well known figure in Presbyterian circles.
