John Hall grew up in Mountnorris Presbyterian Church, was a missionary to Connaught, Commissioner of Education and responsible for the building of Mary’s Abbey Presbyterian Church in Dublin and Fifth Avenue Presbyterian Church, New York.

As well as being a dedicated pastor and a remarkable preacher, he was also a gifted poet, a strong temperance advocate and a bold supporter of non-sectarian education.
